The Real Deal - Sitting Pretty Atop Solares Hill

Who wouldn't fall in love with an historic Cigar Maker's Cottage in a great Old Town location near everything but far enough away not to be in the middle of it all? The listing Realtor describes 627 Elizabeth Street in Old Town Key West this way:
"Opportunity knocks. This totally remodeled home was awarded the Cert. of Excellence and a Silver Star for 2010. You will feel the attention to details from the moment you step inside. The entry hall has a vaulted ceiling that adds drama and flair as the hall progresses toward the new addition at the rear. Two bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bath located between them are situated at the front of the home. A convenient guest bath is located at the end of the hallway just before the hallway opens to the living area with an expansive vaulted ceiling. An ever so delicate staircase is located at the far end of the living area. That staircase provides access to the second floor master bedroom and bath at the back of the new rear addition. You will find the deluxe kitchen with beautiful cabinetry and stainless steel appliances located at the rear of the home. French doors from the kitchen out to the large deck and pool area. Offered at $895,000.

Delicate new staircase to the master suite

Living area with lots of custom built cabinetry

The opposite of the compressed and confining feel of most cottage homes

Who wouldn't love a kitchen like this?

Rear deck off the pool

The home has a very elegant but not overstated feel once you enter. Every detail has been attended to but not in such a way as to make you feel uncomfortable. Some houses come across as being so "done" that you don't fell you can sit down. Not here. This home was made for sophisticated but also relaxed living.

This property is very nice but has been for sale for a very long time. Thoughts on why no movement? Is it just priced too high?

I think the lack of off street parking is the biggest reason the house has not sold. Buyers in the higher price point normally expect off street parking as a requirement.

Gary Thomas in a Nutshell

My photo
Key West, Florida, United States
I first read about Key West in a magazine called "After Dark" sometime in the mid 1970's. But it wasn't until March 1984 that I made my first visit to the island that would become my home. I had two weeks for a vacation and reserved a room at Colours Guesthouse (now Marrero's Guest House) for one week. I thought that if I didn't like Key West, I could always go back to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale for the rest of my trip. But after a couple of days in Key West, that was no longer a consideration. But when I wanted to extend my stay for the extra week I found there was no room at the inn. The guesthouse owner did find me a room at LaTeDa, the infamous guesthouse/restaurant. That's a story I'll write another day. But those two weeks in Key West gave me the realization that I had found Paradise. Key West has been my home since 1993 and my only regret is that it took me so long to get here. I am a full time Realtor at Preferred Properties CRI.
