1221 Johnson Street - Casa Marina Area - Key West

Located just east of the Casa Marina and perfectly situated near the White Street pier and the beaches you will find the new Preferred Properties listing at 1221 Johnson Street in Key West, Florida.

Like many of the homes in the Casa Marina Area, this home has a tall privacy fence and gated entry.  The tropically landscaped courtyard leads to the front entry.

You enter the home through a formal entry.  Just beyond the entry is a cloistered office with built-in bookcase. The office has this really sweet view of the courtyard with flowering bougainvillea trailing over the fence and babbling fountain below.

Off to the right is the master suite with a large bedroom area and doors that open out to the heated  pool and spa area. There is a huge walk-in closet.  When I snapped pics of the closet my mind realized that the room, like the other rooms throughout the house, has crown molding. And then I recalled that the former owner was a general contractor. I have found that people who buy a house actually owned and lived in by a contractor often get more house for the money because of all the details and superior workmanship that others have to pay a premium to get. As I made my way through the house I noticed numerous examples of quality finishes or details that I just did not anticipate at the price point of $1,195,000.

The living room, dining area, and kitchen occupy the center and rear portions of this home. Two banks of windows look out to the pool area which beckons you out to enjoy the Key West sun. And sun there is. There are enough palms and tropical foliage to make the pool appealing but not so much to make getting a tan impossible. Too many times pools are tiny or too shady. That is not the case here. There are areas where shade is available but there are abundant areas to really enjoy the sun. CLICK HERE to view lots of photos I took of this new property.
According to the listing Realtor 1221 Johnson Street has 2000 sq ft of living space area under air. The house sits on a 70' x 88' (6,160 sq ft) lot. While the original home was built in 1958, the home today is quite contemporary in design and function. Original floor plans and building materials were replaced with such features as travertine marble floors, crown molding, recessed lights, volume ceilings, etc. The interior color palate is earth tones.CLICK HERE to view the Key West mls datasheet on this fine home.

Gary Thomas in a Nutshell

My Photo
Key West, Florida, United States
I first read about Key West in a magazine called "After Dark" sometime in the mid 1970's. But it wasn't until March 1984 that I made my first visit to the island that would become my home. I had two weeks for a vacation and reserved a room at Colours Guesthouse (now Marrero's Guest House) for one week. I thought that if I didn't like Key West, I could always go back to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale for the rest of my trip. But after a couple of days in Key West, that was no longer a consideration. But when I wanted to extend my stay for the extra week I found there was no room at the inn. The guesthouse owner did find me a room at LaTeDa, the infamous guesthouse/restaurant. That's a story I'll write another day. But those two weeks in Key West gave me the realization that I had found Paradise. Key West has been my home since 1993 and my only regret is that it took me so long to get here. I am a full time Realtor at Preferred Properties CRI. Let me help you find your new home or business in Paradise. Living in Paradise is not a slogan, it's a way of life.
