724 Windsor Lane, Key West - Bank Owned Cottage

Just Listed 724 Windsor Lane in Key West, Florida. This little gem is a Bank Owned property located in a great Old Town neighborhood across the street from the historic Key West Writer's Compound which is an  assortment of restored shacks, shanties, cottages, and houses which were once winter homes for writers such as Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Richard Wilbur; "Divine Comedy" translator John Ciardi; John Hersey author of "A Bell for Adano" and "Hiroshima", and Ralph Ellison who wrote "The Invisible Man".  Windsor Lane  is located near the top of Solaris Hill which is the highest point in Key West. (I sold the John Hersey home [yellow house below] a few years ago and a second home two years ago.)

The listing agent describes the home this way:
"Location! Location! Old Town Near Solares Hill. This Quaint Home Offers 1 Bedroom And 1 Bath With Loft Thru Kitchen Area. Sit On Your Front Porch And Grill On Your Back Fenced Private Deck With Off Street Parking. Beautiful Wood Flooring In Main Living Areas And Tile In Bathroom With A Claw-foot Tub."
The inside of this property looks to be freshly painted. It really smelled fresh when I took photos this morning. You can see all of my photos of 724 Windsor Lane if you CLICK HERE.  I also noticed that the windows had been replaced within the past few years. There are newish wood floors throughout the house except for the bathroom which has tile floors. This is a basic four room house which is laid out with the bedroom up front, living area in the middle, kitchen at the rear, and bathroom connected to bedroom.
An owner could alternatively use the middle room as the bedroom and use the front room as the living area. I guess my preference would be to keep sleeping area removed from the kitchen to provide privacy.
The two photos above show some added storage area (and maybe a place for your brother-in-law to sleep).  The house has Dade County Pine in many areas. Parts of the kitchen which appears to be an addition to the original house appear to have galvanized corrugated panels for interior walls. All of the air conditioning is wall or window units. According to the listing Realtor this home has 580 sq ft of living space and sits on a 1235 sq ft lot (19' X 65').
724 Windsor Lane is located about two and one-half blocks east of Duval Street and a little over three blocks from the Historic Key West Seaport. There is a giant pool at Dante's at the seaport. Go there to swim, tan, and have daytime cocktails.  If you run out of bread or milk Charlie's Grocery is located one half block away. Otherwise, this is a nice quiet little neighborhood close to to the things that make Old Town so interesting, but quiet at the same time. Having a private off street parking spot just adds to the appeal of this little home.

Sad to think someone's slice of heaven was lost to the hands of mega bank America...

Dear Readers, Copy and Paste the link above to read about the former owner and his time in this house.

I used to do commercial loan workouts for two big banks in Denver. Banks foreclose not to be bad or evil but to get the money they loaned paid back.

I tried to help a couple of locals resolve problems they had with a mega bank. This was a freebie from me because I do not have an active law license in Florida. I was simply trying to get to speak to someone. I found speaking to a live person was impossible.

I then tried to speak to an attorney in one of the foreclosure law firms up in the Miami - Palm Beach stretch. I could not even speak to a secretary. Except today secretaries are called personal assistants or whatever. I found it impossible to talk to a live person about a live person with a problem but also a desire to work out a way to save that person's house.

Then I sent several emails to the attorney. That didn't work either. These guys have personal assistants who run interference to keep real people from talking to real attorneys.

One day soon I am going to write about a recent foreclosure where i represented a buyer who purchased a home via an online auction. It will scare people with brains. It should. I will tell you this as a teaser: I had to talk with an asset manager in India or Pakistan who was responsible for a property in Key West. Those of you who hate big banks will get a chance to stomp on the tomb of this big bank and the asset manager who learned not to f*ck with the city of Key West.
