27 Kingfisher Lane - Key West - Bank Owned

If you are  a golfer looking for a house on the links or a bargain hunter looking for a two bedroom/tow bath home at an affordable price, the new listing at 27 Kingfisher Lane located on the Key West Golf Course may be the answer to your dreams.  The listing Realtor, not me, describes this Bank Owned property this way:
"Lovely two bedroom and 2 bath town home is located on a quiet-cul-de sac in the Key West Golf Club. Property is steps away from both of the association's pools. Home has a wrap around porch and a large screened in patio with amazing views of the Golf Course."

Kingfisher Lane is located off the main drive that winds its way through the Key West Golf Club. The lane ends in a large cul-de-sac around which you will find maybe a dozen homes with different views of the golf course. Each house is a built a bit different than the next. 27 Kingfisher Lane is unique in that it has a wraparound porch that adds to the physical size and architectural beauty of this town home. This unit has a large screened back porch and a smallish backyard. The front of the unit has front porches on the first and second floor. I have been told that owners of similar units have obtained permission to enclose the wrap around porches which could increase the interior of a unit like this substantially.

The inside of this unit is typical of most 900 sq ft homes. The kitchen is located at the front. A breakfast bar opens out from the kitchen to the dining area. The living room is located at the middle and ends with large sliding doors that open out to the enclosed rear porch. The view from both inside the house and especially the back porch is quite seductive. (The laundry is located in a closet.)

The master and second bedrooms are located on the second floor. Both bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and en-suite baths. The master bedroom has French doors that open out to the front deck.  The back bedroom has great views of the golf course.

27 Kingfisher Lane is offered for sale at $299,900. CLICK HERE to view the Key West mls datasheet and to view listing photos.  I took more photos of this clean bank owned property - CLICK HERE to view.  There is some minor deferred maintenance. A couple of windows and some exterior trim ought to be replaced. I did not notice any other structural issues. A serious buyer needs to have any property inspected by a licensed building inspector.

As an owner at the Key West Golf Club you are entitled to use either of the two community pools. The large pool is just incredible. There is even a small gym located in the community center.

Most of the houses in Old Town, the Meadows, Casa Marina, and even midtown and newtown are priced higher than this property.  A buyer looking for value really ought to look at this property even if only to compare it for price.  I once suggested to a buyer to look at the golf course. He said he didn't play golf. I responded that you don't have to play golf to live at the golf course. What that buyer wanted was value. There are a lot of places at the golf course that offer value.

1012 Whitehead Street - Old Town - Key West

The Cute Corner Conch Cottage located at 1012 Whitehead Street may be the answer to your dreams if you are looking for a moderately priced two bedroom Old Town home that is within easy walking distance to Duval Street, the beaches, and the funky places that make Key West so interesting.  The listing Realtor describes this property as:
"Exquisite Key West cottage with two master ensuite bedrooms downstairs and up. Renovated granite kitchen. Updated spacious bathrooms. Only one block from Duval Street, just down the street from Hemingway's Home and KW Lighthouse. Enjoy one of the best locations in Key West."
As is often the case in Key West what you see from the street is not the same as what is located on the inside. You might assume that the front porch is the entrance to this home. Not so, contraire.  The entrance is located on the Julia Street side of the house at the rear where a gate opens onto the back deck which leads to French doors that open into a story and a half great room. The spacious area includes living, dining, and kitchen. The room at the front of the house is actually one of two bedrooms each of which has an em-suite bath.

1012 Whitehead Street would definitely work as a full time residence for someone looking to relocate to the Old Town area. The listing agent says the house has 1625 sq ft of living space. A couple or roommates could function well in this creative living space CLICK HERE to view more photos I took.

1012 Whitehead Street is offered at $585,000. CLICK HERE to view the Key West mls datasheet. If you would like to see this home, please contact me, Gary Thomas, 305-766-2642. I am a buyers agent and a full time Realtor at Preferred Properties Key West. Let me help you find your place in Paradise

Historic Henry Lowe House - 809 Eaton Street - Key West

809 Eaton Street in Old Town Key West dates back to circa 1840 when it was built for Henry Lowe. The house was totally restored and expanded in 2005 when it was featured in the Old Island Foundation House Tour.  The house is typical of other Bahamian styled homes of that era located in the immediate neighborhood.
Many of the Key West's founding fathers were expatriates from the Bahamas. They brought with them the architectural style and construction techniques with which they were familiar.  Bahamian styled houses were placed on piers and had wood frames and had tall ceilings and large windows with Bahama shutters which permitted air to circulate through the house to provide natural cooling. The houses were built with wood clapboard siding.

I dug deep into the old shoebox and found a photo of the roof of 809 Eaton Street (black and white photo immediately below) that was taken in 1914.  I just love the look of Key West back in the day. You can see that the Historic Seaport is only a couple of blocks away. Note all of the smaller buildings which back then were cook houses or privies.  I found another photo of 809 Eaton Street that was taken in 1965 (black and white photo second below). The house would have been about 125 years old when that pic was taken. Forty-eight years later 809 Eaton Street still looks great (color photo below taken February 2013).

Recently I found a photo of 809 Eaton Street that was taken in the 1960's from the Island City House located across the street. That pic reminded me of Freddy in the Nightmare on Elm Street. I took a photo from the same location a few days ago just to prove a point that what was once is often still the same on our little island where historic homes are preserved - not destroyed.

The listing Realtor at Preferred Properties, that's where I work but this is not my listing, describes 809 Eaton Street this way:
"Classic 1800's Old Town property which is a combination of the Henry Lowe House and the Samuel Kemp House, built in 1840. This 5 bedroom / 4.5 bath 3 story home with 1 bedroom / 1 bathroom guest cottage has all the amenities you're looking for! This historic home offers a spacious living area with large open kitchen which is great for entertaining. Additional features include large porches throughout, high ceilings, Dade County Pine, hardwood flooring, large covered deck, fantastic pool and jacuzzi and off-street parking. Converted cistern as wine cellar. There is also a 60,000 watt generator so you're never in the dark. On the National Registry of Historic Places."
This house has 4712 sq ft of living space in the main house and guest cottage. The lot is an irregular rectangle of of 6079 sq ft (approximately 57' x 125'). The main level includes a spacious living room, dining room, family room and extra large kitchen and pantry. The master bedroom with en-suite bath is also located on the main floor at the left rear of the home.  Multiple sets of French doors line the back of the house and open onto a rear loggia that overlooks the pool.
A gracious staircase leads to the second floor where there are two large bedrooms and baths. These bedrooms open onto the wrap-around second floor porch. A smaller staircase leads to the third floor which has a dormitory style bedroom plus a wonderful bath at the rear which as a view looking toward the Gulf of Mexico. You can see the pool, guest cottage, and garden. This is the kind of view that  people who accomplished great things get to enjoy.
The interior finishes and materials are all of the highest quality. While the house is rich in history and the house itself has several formal living spaces, most of the living areas on the inside and outside are quite relaxed. The combined family room and kitchen provide area for family and friends to enjoy this incredible home.
It is the outdoor living area that will probably entice that special buyer to select this home. The covered rear deck overlooks the lengthy pool and spa which is surrounded by bricked walkways and sunning areas. The guest cottage on the west side was built as part of the 2005 restoration and expansion. The cottage has a separate designer kitchen and bath plus bedroom each of which looks out to the pool. (Your guests will never leave.)

The property has two off street parking spots: one adjacent to the front entrance and a second at the rear.  The whole house generator will provide electricity to keep you comfortable and cozy in the event of power failure elsewhere on the island. CLICK HERE to view a slide show of photos of this incredible Key West property.

This is a very large house and it has a large guest cottage. You can see it has a great outdoor entertaining area, sexy pool and sunning area. It is located two blocks south of the Historic Key West Seaport and only four blocks from Duval Street. This place would make an incredible vacation rental. it would stay full all the time to people with big budgets who demand the best.
