Just listed, but not by me, the ever-so-delightful
1305-1307 Petronia Street compound located in the
Meadows Area of
Key West. I got the opportunity to view this new property a couple of days ago. I was surprised and impressed. I had eyed and even photographed 1305 Petronia Street back in 2010 when I mentioned it in a blog I wrote about a similar house located on Windsor Lane. First, let me show you a photo that shows how this property looked nearly half a century ago. Next you will see how it appeared in the Key West mls in 2005. Then look at the way it looked in 2010, and finally take gander at the new and completed facade in 2013.

The old black and white photo helps us see the house, built in 1906, appears to have been the original front cottage with a sawtooth addition followed by a more boxy rear addition at the rear. The 2010 photo shows an additional sawtooth addition and the emergence of a new two story structure at the rear. What I did not know was that the same owner would also renovate the house next door at 1307 Petronia Street. The two properties have been totally rebuilt from top to bottom and are now offered for sale at
$2,400,000. The listing Realtor describes this dynamic duo as:
"Two totally renovated historic conch homes located in the very desirable meadows
neighborhood. No expenses have been spared. Both homes boasts top quality
kitchens, Ipe flooring both inside and out.Beautiful tropical gardens that are
enlightened with exotic orchids & tropical trees along with ancient Balinese

1305 and 1307 Petronia Street have been combined into a compound of sorts. 1305 Petronia is used by the current owner as the main house and 1307 Petronia is used as a guest house for friends and relatives. The brightly colored house numerals at both properties suggest laid back houses. That's true to a point, but the interiors surprisingly sophisticated.
The master and en-suite bath are located at the rear of the first floor. French doors lead to a private IPE deck that is bound by tropical foliage on two sides. Two more bedrooms each with en-suite bath are located on the second floor of the main house.
The "guest cottage" at 1307 Petronia Street is a fully contained house. Downstairs you will find a proper foyer with stairway that leads to the second floor bedrooms. The living room is located just off the foyer. The dining room and kitchen are located at the rear of the main hallway.
The two bedrooms are located upstairs. The master bedroom has a nice sitting area where French doors open out to a sundeck. A spiral staircase leads down to the pool below.
The pool sits behind the guest cottage. There is a lovely shaded orchid garden located between the two homes. The outdoor space is designed for low maintenance living.
i think 1305 and 1307 Petronia Street would make a great vacation rental. It has all of the amenities and style that sophisticated vacationers demand. It is near enough to the attractions in Old Town but far enough removed to provide a laid back Key West vacation experience
