New to the Key West real estate market is 1009 Watson Street. I wrote about this hidden gem a few years ago. It is so hidden that I cannot find the original blog. I remember the first time I saw this house several years ago. It is located down a narrow walking lane that is sandwiched between to old houses which front onto Watson Street. The house emerged at the rear as it does today but then I took in the true majesty of the location. The yard is huge by Key West standards and especially huge for being located behind two nice but non-assuming houses. I searched in my old shoebox and found a photo of the front houses and the walkway of fifty plus years ago.
The original house has been rebuilt a couple of times. This current owner did a terrific job and created truly unique interiors in the older spaces. The side yard and backyard were landscaped to perfection. I added the above diagram which shows each room in the house.
The front porch, living room, dining room, and kitchen are the public spaces in this home. There are two bedroom and two baths. The guest bedroom is adjacent to the dining room. The master bedroom and bath are located to the rear.
I was not planning on writing about this property when I saw it and did not take photos. I wish I had because the adjacent bath and the outdoor shower are truly unique. In a day when most people buy cabinets from Home Depot or Restoration Hardware, it is really refreshing to see homeowners who create unique spaces. In this house, or rather at the rear of this house, the owner created an outdoor shower unlike any I have ever seen. Copper tubing was crafted into an odd-shaped cube with pipes going up and down and back and forth with small outlets for water to trickle down. It is magical. And it is located in a magic garden on the 5450 square foot lot (50' X 109'). If you look at the photo immediately below you will see a door from the master bath next to which the outdoor shower is located. A second door from the kitchen also leads to the rear garden to the left side of the rear side addition.
There is plenty of ground upon which a new owner could add a pool. The yard is delightful as is. Not everybody needs a pool, but if you want one, you can have one. I am a buyers agent and a full time Realtor at Preferred Properties Key West. This house will not last long. Now is the time to act.

Hey Gary,
What the hell happened to realtor ethics these days? New listing comes out in the Annex Wednesday and listing agent says "no showings until Friday per the owner". Appointment set for Friday morning. Well guess what? Listing agent shows it today (Thursday) and puts it under contract. To hell with possibly giving it a few days in order to maybe get into a bidding war and get more money for the client. Getting both sides of the deal is FAR more important. Awesome company you got there. Maybe you can put some of that commission into updating your computers so you don't crash again and lose more money for your clients. What goes around comes around. The internet works pretty damn well in Key West also. Best of luck.
Dear Reader, I have no idea what you are referring to - which address, which agent, etc. I do know that assertive buyers or agents get a seller to bend and do things they don't want to do.
Several years ago I worked at Prudential A woman agent who got a listing at 1500 Atlantic Blvd which at that time had only had a few re-sales. I had a cash buyer who wanted a corner unit. I asked if I could show it. The agent said no showings until a few days later. The next day it went under contract. I was pissed! I asked her what happened. She said an agent from a different office insisted on showing it the day it was listed. She and the owner relented. The other agent's buyer made a cash offer that was accepted.
I am not sure that putting something in the MLS that restricts showings and then showing a property is unethical. I do think you are owed an explanation - maybe face to face and with that agents Broker.
Gary
514 Emma . Megan with Compass. Begged to see it first thing yesterday but no that wasn't possible. Would rather they just said "no showings until I get all my possible buyers in to see it first". That would have at least been the truth.
Shady. I only hope the owner reads this blog in case he/she isn't aware.
And problem here is this agent is the broker. See that's corrupt done correctly...from the top down.
Not good.
I am a real estate agent in MN and this just irritates the heck out of me. Too bad for the seller is right. As always, great blog Gary.
I wonder if that seller has any clue about other interested parties. Horrible horrible agent behavior here.
