President Jimmy Carter

President Jimmy Carter spoke to a group at the Solar Energy Research Institute located on South Table Mountain in Golden, Colorado on May 3, 1978. It was an atypical cold, gray, and otherwise miserable day.  At around 5:00 PM he met with some locals at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Denver. He walked through the room shaking hands with folks.  As he approached me I extended my right hand and said "Welcome to sunny Colorado!" He gave me a brief look, like What? and then got my humor.  I think.

Today is President Carter's 95th Birthday.  Congratulations Mr. President!

While many think of President Carter as a failed President, he was most definitely a man of morality that our country desperately needed after an immoral man resigned as our President. In hindsight, President Carter is still known for bringing a historic peace treaty to the Middle East, avoided war with Iran (although at a high political cost) and a person who fought for human rights and environmental conservation long before such issues were en vogue. We are in similar times today, in more than one way, and hopefully we will have a moral leader rise up to steady our ship. Happy Birthday, Mr. President Carter. God Bless!

Dear Anon, I don't think President Carter failed any more than President Trump created the current positive economy. The economy went bust before 2008 and rebounded when Obama pushed the auto industry bailout - which got repaid. Of course it worked. America is America. We are strong. Republican or Democrat. We are America.
What crippled Carter's administration was the stifling commercial interest rates. I was doing commercial loan workouts at that time. Grown men came into my office and cried. Politicians. I kid you not. I could name names. Important Colorado Democrats. Life was tough. The free market caused the decline. Today the market is controlled by a different FED with a different mandate.

We will all have to pay for today's prosperity in the future. I can't believe Republicans are going along with this.
Gary
