11 Nassau Lane, Key West - Open House Rain or Shine

We had a rainy morning last Sunday and then just before noon sunshine and puffy white clouds broke out making a wonderful afternoon. I hope that is the case today.
The "rock" in the driveway is plastic. It's plastic and weighs about 4 or 5 pounds. It's easily movable but stays where its at to remind guests of other neighbors on this small lane that the front parking belongs to this house. The side gate opens to a beautiful passage to the rear garden.
Notice the outdoor shower on the wall. People who live in Key West love their outdoor showers. I sue mine in the rain - I just turn up the water temperature a little higher.
The previous owners bought installed the orchid garden which is irrigated and lighted at night. There is room to add a pool but that would mean a loss of some seating area. There is room on the side passage for workers to dig and install a pool. Set backs are five feet from rear and either side.
The second floor bedroom and bath is accessed via an exterior spiral staircase.  The views in my opinion are incomparable in Key West. The only home I remember with nearly as much a romantic view was from the bathroom in Nancy Friday's former home on Pinder Lane and her view was through the bathroom windows. Only certain people get to live in magical settings. That is how I described Nancy Friday's former home when I sold it. This is such a place.

Two bedrooms, Two baths. Historic cottage. 11 Nassau Lane, Key West - $849,000.

11 Nassau Lane, Key West - Open House

Come sit a spell with me at my open house.
11 Nassau Lane in Old Town Key West. I will be there between 12:00 to 2:00 PM
The 2 bedroom 2 bath cottage home was built circa 1860 and has all the charm one can hope for in an historic home.
The master bedroom with ensuite is located on the second floor. It's about as charming as a little love nest you will find in Key West. French doors open out to the rear covered porch. It's the perfect perch to reflect upon how lucky you are to live in Key West.
The garden wraps around the north side of the house all the way to the rear. There is room for a pool but you may choose to keep it as simple as it is today.
Nassau Lane is located just off Fleming Street between Grinnell and Frances Streets. You'll know 11 Nassau Lane as soon as you get near. It is as charming as I promise. I promise. Offered at $849,000.

11 Nassau Lane, Key West - Open House Sunday

Look carefully at the newspaper Avery is holding next to his seersucker jammies.  It is the Key West Citizen of course. Avery and Lillie are Key West locals who do what so many locals do - they go to Sunday Open Houses to see what is for sale and compare what they have to what someone is trying to sell. I see them often at open houses that I host.
I sent in an ad to appear in the Sunday Key West Citizen before noon on Friday only to get an email advising me I missed the cutoff deadline. So the ad I intended to run will not be in the paper.  Instead, look to INSTAGRAM and TWITTER for reminders of the Open House at 11 Nassau Lane in Old Town Key West.
Greet each morning from your treehouse view of the orchid garden at 11 Nassau Lane located near the end on one of the slowest lanes in Old Town Key West. Don't blink or you'll miss the turn off of Fleming Street between Grinnell and Frances Streets. Better yet, walk.  It does a body good.

Enchanting two bedroom two bath cottage offered at $899,000.  Open Sunday December 30th

11 Nassau Lane

Let's prove the Key West Citizen obsolete - come to my Open House! Look for Avery.

11 Nassau Lane, Key West - Weekend Open House

With only three shopping days to Christmas, I thought I would host a Pop-Up Open House at
11 Nassau Lane
Saturday and Sunday (December 22 and 23)
12:00 to 2:00 PM
If you are speeding on a scooter, slow down. If you are riding on a bike or walking, turn south and walk down one of the sweetest slow lanes in Key West. 11 Nassau Lane is located mid-way up this dead end lane.  You're in for a treat!
I have written several blogs about 11 Nassau Lane, Key West.  I sold it to the previous owners about seventeen years ago who fell in love with this little house even before we made it to the inside. This was the first and only house these buyers looked at. It was love at first sight.  It is now available for purchase.
The owners believe this home was built circa 1860 just before the start of the Civil War. Although this home has been updated and expanded, the Dade County Pine walls in the living room and kitchen are extra wide boards which are indicative of very old growth wood. A previous owner replaced the original floors, remodeled the kitchen and bath, added French doors to the side and rear bedroom.
The current owners converted the main floor bedroom at the rear into a den and added a Murphy Bed (not shown in these photos.) The garden view is joyous.
Several years ago the owners added a second floor bedroom and bathroom plus covered rear porch and and created a love nest in the process. Who wouldn't fall in love with a treetop space this precious?  The vaulted ceiling with skylights, sharp repetitive angles, plus contrasting natural and painted woods are juxtaposed to the expansive open views of the surrounding trees and blue sky. As the photographer was snapping photos of this space, I noticed strands of shells suspended on the porch. They shimmered like gems. Yes. They shimmered like gems. Precious gems.
