Just listed by Preferred Properties, that's where I work but this is not my listing, 906 Johnson Street in the Casa Marina Area of Key West. The listing Realtor describes the property as:

 Grand would be an appropriate modifier as this home is grand in size, design, and prominence on a block of equally important large homes. As is the case of many homes in the Casa Marina Area, this home sits behind a tall privacy fence which gives the property a very real sense of privacy.  Upon entering the property you are taken by the quite large front entry flanked by the alluring pool to the east and the garden to the west. Brick paths wrap around the house which lead to the various cottages at the rear.

 The main house sits behind a private gated entry. Gardens surround the house on either side and then wrap around the house at the rear. The two story home has rich wood flooring and European details throughout. The main home includes three guest rooms, a complete mother-in-law suite or servant's quarters, a formal dining area, a formal living room with fireplace and an equally large and gracious family room that overlooks the rear gardens. The home has an extra large galley kitchen,  a breakfast room that overlooks the large pool and outdoor kitchen on the east side of the property, and a cheerful laundry room that looks out onto the rear gardens as well.

This home is located just one half block east of the Casa Marina Resort and about two blocks north of Higg's Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. The three blocks of Johnson Street from White Street Reynolds Street might just be the most expensive stretch in all of Key West.  If you think I am appealing to the snob, I am. People who spend a lot of money on a home want to make sure that the surrounding homes are equally valuable. They are in this area. A new owner might want to join the Casa Marina Club where you could use the gym, spa services, private beach, and get a discount on all food and beverage at the hotel.

1501 White Street - Key West - Casa Marina Area


1501 White Street in the Casa Marina Area of Key West is located two blocks north of Higg's Beach and the great Atlantic Ocean.

The listing broker at Preferred Properties (that's where I work but this is not my listing) describes this property like this:

The house is located at the corner of White Street and Flagler Avenue. This location will turn off some potential buyers just because of the location. So be it. There are two houses located at the same corner intersection that recently sold over $2,000,000 each. Don't let the location dissuade you from looking. You might just fall in love with this very private home that is hidden behind the privacy wall and towering palms. The updated main house with its lush garden and sunny pool sit behind a tall privacy wall surrounded by large palms and specimen trees. An electric gate opens to covered off street parking. A caretaker's cottage sits at the back of the property. The lot is quite large by Key West standards (60' x 120' or 7,369 sq ft).

The main house was built in 1958 and was updated around 1995 with additional improvements after that. The house has 1380 sq ft of living space consisting of the living room, kitchen, master bedroom and bath plus a second bedroom and bath. The living room is extra large in size and volume. The north wall in the living room has built-in cabinetry. Cuban tiles give this space (and the bedroom areas) a rich and sophisticated feel. During a recent showing my prospective buyer opined that he might remove remove the current single panel door in the living room (above) and replace it with French doors that look out to the pool and garden.  I immediately appreciated the dramatic change that would bring to this already incredible property. Note the large Cuban tile floors as well.

The asking price was reduced from $789,000 to $695,000 or $418 per sq ft.

The kitchen has a bank of French doors that open out to the pool on one side and an adjacent wall of windows that allow filtered sun light in from the south. The kitchen has been updated with new cabinets, appliances, and light fixtures. When I looked at the space I thought to myself this home is really cool. What a great place for a party. The pool area gets sunshine most of the day so you. Your guests won't have to go to the beach for a tan. But the beach is only a short two block walk in case you feel the need to get sand in your toes. Locals meet up at the city park across from teh beach every morning while walking their dogs.

The Lap of Luxury - Key West

Preferred Properties just listed the house with the longest lap pool I have seen in the Key West area. You might call this place the lap of luxury. The 3384 sq ft home is located on Cudjoe Key at Mile Marker 20, about a 20 minute drive out from Key West. The house sits just at the end of a canal that provides immediate access to the Atlantic Ocean. The house is located on an 18,960 sq ft lot with all major views oriented toward the water. The master suite is located on the east side and the guest rooms are on the west side of the house. The living and entertaining areas are located in the middle and separate the two wings to provide total privacy for the owners.

When I first entered the home my eyes were immediately drawn to the left beyond the bring living area shown above and past the informal dining area to the mangroves and water. Just to the right was the formal dining room and beyond it was the large kitchen with a large window with an incredible view of the pool and open water beyond.

I couldn't wait any longer. I had to step outside to see for myself how wonderful the outdoor space was to be.

The master suite is larger than some of the two story homes in Truman Annex. And the views are just incredible. The master suite has immediate access to the pool area, but there is an inside spa in the master bath.

1001 United Street - Key West

The house at 1001 United Street #B really does have a view of the Atlantic Ocean. In fact it has one of the very best 'tree top' views I have seen in all of Key West. The three story attached house has a widows walk with 360 degree views of Key West. I was just captivated by the sights. My prospective buyers contemplated cocktails and sunsets forever.

The listing Realtor describes this property like this:
"This bright and airy attached three story home, with palladium windows and French doors, has a private deck with access to a pool shared with three other homes. An extra full bath with shower is located outside off the deck. High ceilings and an open floor plan throughout the first floor create a feeling of spaciousness. Two bedrooms and two baths and laundry are located on the second level with French doors opening to an upstairs balcony overlooking the pool and deck. An exterior spiral staircase winds its way to the third floor light-filled artist's studio with half bath. This house is attached to the house in front and a second stand alone house is located next door to the east. The three houses share a common pool seen above. This shared pool arrangement is similar to several other homes built in the same area built nearly 30 years ago. This house has 1583 sq ft of living space on three levels. A large wrap around deck surrounds this house on three sides. The French doors open onto the decks on three sides. There is a large and private deck area off the living area. That deck extends to the dining alcove off the kitchen. The kitchen cabinets are original: 1983. The kitchen space is wonderful and this could be a very fun and relatively inexpensive redo. I think the whole house needs a fresh coat of paint, but otherwise this place would make a great second home.

The spiral staircase is located on the outside so it is not taking up valuable interior space. It provides access to the third floor which could be an office or overflow guest bedroom. That area would make a great artist's studio or writer's retreat. But it is the widow's walk that made me not want to go back to earth. What a view! What a price-$537,000!

1001 United Street is a five block walk to the restaurants and nightlife on upper Duval Street such as LaTeDa and 915 among many. South Beach is located at the end of Duval, but you could as easily walk to Higg's Beach or Rest Beach in about the same time-maybe ten minutes. The shops, gyms, and neighborhood hangouts on White Street are a five minute walk to the east.
