1717 Rose Street, Key West

The home located at 1717 Rose Street, Key West is commonly referred to as a CBS (concrete block construction) home built in 1958. It is typical in many ways to other homes built in this midtown Key West neighborhood located east of the White Street Pier which ends at Bertha Street just as it bends on Atlantic Boulevard at the beginning of world famous Smathers Beach. Think about what I just wrote. This house is located near two of the best beaches in Key West.  People save all year long to come to Key West to have fun. If you bought this house, you could walk to fun any day of the year. And the good thing about this listing is you don't have to fix anything because this house is in really good shape. But if you want to add a pool or expand the house, you could.
The house itself has been updated and looks sharp. The 1080 sq ft house has two bedrooms and one bath which was typical for the construction of the 1950s. The lot is a generous 5285 sq ft lot (52.85' X 100').  Most of the other lots in this area are 5000 sq ft and some are as large as 10,000 sq ft. Many homes now have privacy fences in front. This home does not. Many of the neighboring homes have pools. This does not. Most of the neighboring homes are more valuable because they have been expanded and have more amenities than this home.
The first thing I noticed when I entered this home was how clean and bright the interior was. There is a carport located adjacent to the living room where two large windows allow a lot of light to enter. I think but do not know to be a fact that a former patio was enclosed to create a family room located at the rear. The family room has lots of windows which look out to the large back yard. Each of the two bedrooms has been updated as has the single bathroom.
This home is in move-in condition. A new owner would not need to do anything. I can imagine all kinds of things a new owner could do to this home and this incredible lot. The home is offered at $527,000 which is in the lower price range for homes currently for sale in Key West. CLICK HERE to view the Key West MLS datasheet. Please call me, Gary Thomas, 305-766-2642, to set up a private showing. I'll drive you by nearby Higg's Beach and Smathers Beach. You'll soon understand why I view this home as a buying opportunity. Old Town is a quick five minute drive to the north and west. Our three shopping centers are also located nearby.

1421 Reynolds Street - Casa Marina Area - Key West

Buyers who want a million dollar address ought to take a look at 1421 Reynolds Street in Key West.  Locals and frequent visitors to Key will likely recognize the value of owning a home located in the Casa Marina Area of Key West. This Mid Century home is located within a five minute walk to Higg's Beach and the Great Atlantic Ocean.  And it has easy access to the rest of Key West as well. The great thing about this three bedroom, two bath home is that it is move-in ready and it is priced at only $649,000. That beats the higher prices you'd expect for similar sized house in Old Town.  The listing Realtor describes the property this way:
"Lovely Mid-Century Modern three bedroom home in highly desirable Casa Marina neighborhood. Beautifully maintained terrazzo floors, sleek lines and simplicity are hallmarks of the Mid-Century style. Renovated kitchen, open floor plan living room and central air conditioning are recently added conveniences. Great outdoor spaces and room for a pool on this large tropical lot. Entry courtyard provides privacy and relaxation. The 310 square foot screened covered porch not included in the under air square footage but could be easily enclosed. Off-street parking with carport provides convenient parking for at least 2 vehicles. An Adorable Casa Marina Treasure."
Even the newer areas of Key West are not always "new".  The house at 1421 Reynolds Street was built in 1958.  I didn't have to dig all that deep into the old shoebox to find a photo of the house as it appeared fifty some years ago. Today the house sits behind a six foot fence that protects the view from the street. This is typical of many homes in the Casa Marina Area. I do think it looks better today, however.  In fact all of Key West looks better today. There are trees and lush vegetation all over the island. Lots of tourist dollars has made it possible for our little city to provide great amenities for locals and tourists alike.  And things get better each year.  And little houses like this one on Reynolds Street, and the people that own, are the beneficiaries of all the tourist revenue.
The nearly 1100 sq ft house is a ranch with three bedrooms and two baths. The interiors have been updated to compliment the original design which included Terrazzo floors that shine. A new contemporary kitchen was added along with new sliding doors that open out to two different covered outdoor living areas. The property has off street parking at front and room for a pool at the rear.
The former carport is now one covered outdoor living area and a covered and screen enclosed porch serves the backyard area. I think there is room for a pool here.  Of course, you could save the cost of building a pool by walking the four blocks to Higg's Beach and the ocean just four blocks to the south.

I am a buyers agent and a full time Realtor at Preferred Properties Key West. I live in the Casa Marina Area and love it for its convenience and quiet. I work almost all the time so I don't get to use the beach like I used to, but the proximity is truly a plus when guest are in town. If you have a dog, our doggie park is located across the street from Higg's Beach. Your pooch can meet new friends twice a day. 1421 Reynolds Street could by your home by Christmas this year - if you hurry!

1327 White Street - The Casa Marina District - Key West

If you have been looking for an impressive four bedroom home with a pool, off street parking, and lots of Key West charm, please consider 1327 White Street as an affordable alternative to more highly priced homes of similar age and condition in Old Town.  The listing Realtor describes this 2862 sq ft home this way:
"Luxury renovation of a historic 1880s three story home. Neighboring the highly coveted Casa Marina District. A perfect combination of every modern luxury a discerning buyer would expect and beautiful 1800s historical architecture. The property features restored Dade County Pine throughout as well as heart pine floors. Crown molding, cathedral ceilings, a spacious master bedroom suite with a walk in closet are just some of the features you will fall in love with. There is a 350 sq ft treetop deck off the third floor with stunning views of the tropical foliage. Sliding glass doors all along the great room open up to the pool and jacuzzi. Perfect for entertaining your guests and family. Spacious floor plan, natural light throughout."
A gracious front porch welcomes guests and provides ample space to sit and watch the world go by. Higg's Beach and Rest Beach are just four blocks to the south. The shops and restaurants of the Key West arts district are three blocks to the north and Duval Street is five minutes by bike to the west.
This house was made for someone that wants a big house with lots of interesting rooms and spaces. This house is the anti-salt box because the geometry of the place is so varied. Look at the photo just above. That proves my point for sure. This home has the appeal of a Queen Anne with a bit of Conch added.  Lots of angles and numerous building materials have blended historic sensibility and current trends together to create a really unique living space. The third floor can be either used as a fifth bedroom or game room. That room provides access to the private roof top deck with commanding tree-top views of the island and the large kidney shaped pool and separate spa below. There are very few homes in Key West that have this kind of view!

The front entry hall (viewed in first two photos above) leads to the second and third floor bedrooms. The main level is a gracious reinterpretation of the historic home with modern lighting, new windows and doors, HVAC, and new kitchen appliances and cabinets all of which are highlighted by the crown molding that defines each living space.

The house sits on a large 4678 sq ft (46.75' x 100.08') located five blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. A white picket fence spans the front of the property. A large gate on the right provides access to the large off street parking space. Notice the wooden vine covered trellis to the right in the photo above. The house faces west toward White Street. The southern side yard is quite large. The parking space is located there (as noted above). Multiple sets of French doors open to the rear side yard and back deck and pool area. The pool area is surrounded on three sides by mature specimen palm trees. The pool and spa are quite large, but there is plenty of room left over for outdoor living. There is an existing shed with water that a new owner might want to expand and turn into an outdoor kitchen. That's the trend for high end homes.

1327 White Street is offered at $1,400,000. CLICK HERE to view the Key West Association of Realtors mls data sheet.
