1514 Petronia Street, Key West - Former Model Home at The Meadows of Key West

Just Listed by yours truly, 1514 Petronia Street, Key West. While this stunning home may look old, it is anything but old. Every detail of this former model home at The Meadows of Key West is done with style, function, and cost-saving ownership in mind.  The home was built new in 2008 and offers 1717 sq ft of luxurious living behind a white picket fence on a street of beautiful homes.  No need to worry about the neighbors on this block. The Garrison Bight Marina is just a stone's throw to the east - it can even be seen from the master bedroom. Old Town is within walking or biking distance.
The home at 1514 Petronia Street is part of The Meadows Condominium Association which is land based association comprised of eight homes. Each home is located on a fee simple lot. The association exists to provide access to rear carport parking via gated driveway and management of storm water runoff. Each homeowner pays his or her individual property insurance and maintenance expenses. (Wind insurance on this home is just $610 and Harzard is only $1207 because of the quality construction and materials used. Compare those rates to much smaller old houses or larger homes in our area.)
The homes were built with top of the line materials and craftsmanship. This home features soaring 11' ceilings in the living area and kitchen. The living area has an elegant coffered ceiling and built-in media center not available in other homes. The extra high base board and crown molding give this home extra pizazz. The kitchen has top of the line stainless steel appliances (including a full gas range not available in other units), beautiful granite and solid wood cabinets. A two story turret is an adjunct to the kitchen and is configured as a home office. There are lots of windows in the kitchen so your cooking will not be a chore but a dream. Look across the street to the three million dollar estate instead of looking toward a fixer-upper. There is also a wet bar in the living room. The floors on the first floor are travertine marble. The stairway and second floor bedrooms have wood floors. The master bedroom features a second turret which is a great place to relax and read a book or maybe to write one. The ceiling is vaulted so the master bedroom has an especially large feel, yet the turret makes the space so cozy. If you peer through the window to the east you have a partial water view of the Garrison Bight Marina. The master bath includes a double vanity, shower, Jacuzzi tub, separate water closet, and lots and lots of closets. The master bath is just opulent. I challenge you to find any more luxurious bath in Key West for less than $2 million. You won't find one.
Architectural details including crown molding, extra high baseboards, soaring ceilings, top of the line kitchen and bath cabinetry, the finest Kohler bath fixtures, two story porches and solid wood doors. All windows and doors are impact resistant. Hardiboard siding means the exterior is virtually maintenance free. Decorative shutters give the home character and provide filtered views from a couple of rooms. The wood doors on the first and second floor front are massive and of the highest quality. The 8' sliding doors that separate the living area from the pool are hurricane impact resistant to 155 mph that open wide to let the outside become part of the inside. A private gated driveway leads to the carport and a separate entry to the private pool and spa area. Each home is completely fenced and beautifully landscaped. This home is located on a corner lot so it has lots of separation from the other nearby homes. CLICK HERE to view more photos.
Eight foot tall glass doors open out to the sunny heated pool with waterfall and adjacent spa. A lush tropical garden flanks the house on the east side where the owner has installed a potting table. There is even a private outdoor shower hidden amid the flora and fauna.  The other side of the house contains a whole house generator and other mechanical equipment. The carport is accessed via gated private driveway. The carport area includes additional storage. There is a place for everything is this home as compared to some places where you may need to rent a storage locker.

Forget Christmas in Connecicut - Next Year it Will be Christmas in Key West - 1503 Washington Street - Key West

Shortly after I arrived at 1503 Washington Street to take photos for today's blog, I fell in love with this home and garden that was decorated to the nines to celebrate the Christmas season.  At first I wandered through the front, side, and rear yards checking out the gardens, fountains, ponds, and babbling brook that make this Key West home like no other. At the rear I spotted St Nick peeking inside the house alongside a 13 foot tall Christmas tree.  I took a peek as well and saw a home decked out for a Christmas party. I went inside and recognized this home was designed for both entertaining and easy family living.  When I saw the wraparound piano bar, I remembered a scene from my favorite Christmas movie - Christmas in Connecticut - where Barbara Stanwyck and her beau sang while she trimmed the Christmas tree.  I thought to myself about buyers who could choose between freezing their rears off in Connecticut or tanning their backsides in Key West.  Key West wins every time.
Barbara and her little stole have been replaced by a silent butler with fur wrap that sets the mood for Christmas cheer at 1503 Washington Street. The main level of this home includes the formal entry, the removable piano bar - living area, dining area, guest bath, kitchen, den, and informal dining area. The Connecticut home has a grand two story entry.  The Key West home has an equally impressive entry which features Brazilian walnut entry doors.

The den or family room opens into the informal dining area and kitchen.  These spaces are the way modern families live as opposed to boxed in spaces like we see the Connecticut home, grand as it was, it is a relic in time. The Key West home even has a modern day fireplace. Personally, I like the fireplace in the Connecticut house a bit more, but at least this home has fireplace. The Connecticut house has a bar whereas the Key West house has a wine storage closet. And the Key West home an outdoor kitchen - something unheard of in Connecticut in the wintertime.  Many homes in Key West have outdoor living spaces and kitchens.  This is how we live no matter the season. At Christmastime when our relatives up north are wearing sweaters and wraps and wallowing in the snow, we can go to the beach in the daytime and dine outside at night.

The pool, gardens, and pond wrap the house like Christmas wrapping paper. Everything is tied up with a cute bow. This home has a carport that is currently used as a semi-office. The second and third photos below show the inside of the "carport".  (There is a second garage on the opposite side of the front.) You can hear the babbling brook through the louvers at the front of the enclosure. You would be amazed at this space.
The second floor includes a large master suite at the rear, a guest bedroom, an office which could easily become a bedroom, guest bath, a library, a laundry room, an ironing room, and a library. You won't find many houses in Key West that have this much attention to detail as this home.
Real work gets done in the office at 1503 Washington Street. A buyer who wants a home office won't need to be too creative to move right in and set up shop.  Maybe mergers and acquisitions got done in Connecticut. I will bet people who live in the cold north will jump at the chance to move their home office to Key West.
