On a normal day or night you ought to be able to get to Old Town within seven minutes buy car. I found a photo taken in the 1920s that shows what the eastern end of Key West looked like back than.
Today some of the most expensive homes on the island are located on the nearby Riviera and Sunrise Canals. In the 1950s and 1960s young professionals moved to the eastern end of the island as an alternative to the old houses in the downtown area of Key West before "historic" homes were considered chic. Today many of the the homes in the area have been updated to provide a new, gentile place to enjoy with wonderful Key West weather and laid back lifestyle. The home at 1509 17th Street is one of the prettiest homes in the area.
Upon entering the house you note that as presently configured, the living spaces have a more traditional layout and feel as compared to more recent construction. Individual rooms include a music room that opens into the living room that is bounded by bookshelves.
Off to the right one bedroom is currently used as an office. That room is quite large compared to bedrooms in newer built homes. The walk-in closet is one of several in this home.

1208 Von Phister Street was just
listed by Preferred Properties, that's where I work but this is not my
listing. The Monroe County Property Appraiser records show that this 780
sq ft house was built in 1938. Methinks the records are in error. The
house has two bedrooms, one bath, and has been updated. A new owner
could pretty much move right in. The house sits on a good sized lot that
measures 49' x 93' (4563 sq ft) one-half block east of White Street and
one block north of Flagler Avenue in the Casa Marina area of Key West.
The Casa Marina area was mostly barren land with streets but few houses
until after World War II. The aerial photo below shows only a few houses in the area when the photo was taken in the 1920s.
And since few houses were being built anywhere in the United States
during the Great Depression, I think it's safe to the house as 1208 Von
Phister Street was more thank likely built either before the Depression
or soon after World War II ended as were many of the other houses in the
area.
In
June 2011 I wrote about the beautiful home directly across the street
at 1205 Von Phister (photo below) that was owned by designer Debra

Phister Street before it and the grounds were transformed into a lush
tropical paradise. Maybe the next owner of 1208 Von Phister Street will
do something creative as well.

Think of 1208 Von Phister Street as

if you do, the space is available. And the great thing about this
