724 Windsor Lane, Key West - Bank Owned Cottage

Just Listed 724 Windsor Lane in Key West, Florida. This little gem is a Bank Owned property located in a great Old Town neighborhood across the street from the historic Key West Writer's Compound which is an  assortment of restored shacks, shanties, cottages, and houses which were once winter homes for writers such as Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Richard Wilbur; "Divine Comedy" translator John Ciardi; John Hersey author of "A Bell for Adano" and "Hiroshima", and Ralph Ellison who wrote "The Invisible Man".  Windsor Lane  is located near the top of Solaris Hill which is the highest point in Key West. (I sold the John Hersey home [yellow house below] a few years ago and a second home two years ago.)

The listing agent describes the home this way:
"Location! Location! Old Town Near Solares Hill. This Quaint Home Offers 1 Bedroom And 1 Bath With Loft Thru Kitchen Area. Sit On Your Front Porch And Grill On Your Back Fenced Private Deck With Off Street Parking. Beautiful Wood Flooring In Main Living Areas And Tile In Bathroom With A Claw-foot Tub."
The inside of this property looks to be freshly painted. It really smelled fresh when I took photos this morning. You can see all of my photos of 724 Windsor Lane if you CLICK HERE.  I also noticed that the windows had been replaced within the past few years. There are newish wood floors throughout the house except for the bathroom which has tile floors. This is a basic four room house which is laid out with the bedroom up front, living area in the middle, kitchen at the rear, and bathroom connected to bedroom.
An owner could alternatively use the middle room as the bedroom and use the front room as the living area. I guess my preference would be to keep sleeping area removed from the kitchen to provide privacy.
The two photos above show some added storage area (and maybe a place for your brother-in-law to sleep).  The house has Dade County Pine in many areas. Parts of the kitchen which appears to be an addition to the original house appear to have galvanized corrugated panels for interior walls. All of the air conditioning is wall or window units. According to the listing Realtor this home has 580 sq ft of living space and sits on a 1235 sq ft lot (19' X 65').
724 Windsor Lane is located about two and one-half blocks east of Duval Street and a little over three blocks from the Historic Key West Seaport. There is a giant pool at Dante's at the seaport. Go there to swim, tan, and have daytime cocktails.  If you run out of bread or milk Charlie's Grocery is located one half block away. Otherwise, this is a nice quiet little neighborhood close to to the things that make Old Town so interesting, but quiet at the same time. Having a private off street parking spot just adds to the appeal of this little home.

800 Fleming Street #1B Key West - The William Fleming House

Just Listed by Preferred Properties Key West 800 Fleming Street #1B, a handsome two bedroom two bath William Fleming House Condominium offered for sale at just $815,000. The listing Realtor describes this property this way:
"This ground floor condominium is perfectly situated poolside in the ideally located William Fleming House. The dramatic double height great room has big high windows and two pairs of French doors opening to a private wrap-around deck. New custom designed bookcases fill one whole wall. The master bedroom has high ceilings, a loft study, walk-in closet and a door leading to the deck. The second bedroom is in a cozy loft overlooking the great room. The assigned parking space is very close to the unit."

The photos above show the building in earlier years before the mercantile building was converted into condominiums. As you look at the old photos you see that the building originally was brick clad. During the renovation wood siding was added along with wrap-around balconies. Those balconies provide lots of exterior space for the owners to enjoy their homes and to watch the world go by. At night the building stands out as a now iconic symbol of sophisticated living in Historic Old Key West.
I remember the very first time I saw a unit at the William Fleming House. I thought "Wow! This is like a New York loft only it's located in Key West, Florida". It has many attributes of an old Key West house but modern updates which suggest loft-style living. The unit has Dade County Pine walls, ceiling, and floors you'd see in many Old Town homes. But the similarity stops when you see the impressive 14ft ceilings wrapped with crown molding and crisp white baseboards. Dual sets of French doors with clerestory windows above open to the private deck.  Plantation shutters diffuse the sunlight from windows on the east side of the living room. Finally, a contemporary interior stairway leads to the second level loft bedroom where there is a nook sitting area that could also be used as an office.
The main floor bedroom is tucked away from the main living areas. A French door opens out to the side deck area which would be a good place to do your morning exercises if you choose not to go one of the gyms located in the Old Town area.  Both bathrooms are on the first floor so you and your mate can make pretty at the same time without getting in each other's way.
The deck off the living area provides just the right amount of privacy but enough sunshine and blue sky to remind you that the  sunny pool is near.  If you have look at one of the resort type condominiums, you probably are familiar with lots of bodies lounging by pool all day long. In all the times I have shown units at the William Fleming House, I saw people in the pool one time. There are just nine units here so the chances are good that you won't be seeing people by the pool all that often.
I took a lot of photos of this property which you can see if you CLICK HERE. The photos will show many alternate view of the building, pool, and interiors. Just above you can see the off street parking. Each unit has one assigned space.
