265 Golf Club Drive, Key West - Just Listed

Image driving home after a long day on the water boating, fishing, diving for lobsters, or alternatively working again. This is the view you will have when entering The Sanctuary at the Key West Golf Club Community. I just listed 265 Golf Club Drive, the largest single family home in The Sanctuary.
This four bedroom home is the largest single family home available with 1816 square feet of living space plus 200 square feet of bonus space off the master bedroom. Let's take a look inside.
Upon entering the front door you are immediately impressed by the size of the main floor and how different it is from the smaller homes in The Sanctuary. There are new floors throughout the house including the dark wood floors on the main level. The new kitchen has cabinetry that extends to the ceiling, stainless steel appliances, and granite counters. The elevated breakfast bar extends out into the open plan living area.
There is a new guest bath located just off the front entry. Stacking washer and dryer are tucked away behind the double doors off the living area.
As you make your way through the living area toward the screened lanai, you notice a first floor bedroom located off to the right. Plantation shutters here and throughout the house allow light flow to be adjusted in a classy way. The crown molding, high baseboards, and trim is painted bright white which contrasts to the dark wood floors. But it is the sunshine filtering through the lanai that begs our further attention.
The screened lanai offers protection from the blazing sun. Believe me, most sane people can only take 30 minutes or so of direct sun. The space is wired for TV and cocktails. You can get wired with cocktails. New TREX decks were added at the front entry and the entire back area. There is a spa plus outdoor shower with multi-level shower sprays.  The tropical foliage behind the pool provides a buffer from the golfers on the other side.
The new master bath has dual vanities with mirrors that illuminate upon touch. The oversized shower has another multi-head shower sprays. Thee is a small window in the room as well. The current owners use the side room as a home office.
Almost all of The Sanctuary homes are two story. This home has first and second floor covered porches with sitting areas. Each of the two front guest bedrooms open out to the porch. The vaulted ceilings add to the spatial feel for each room. The share a newly renovated bath.
The Key West Golf Club Community has two pools including the resort sized pool shown above. There is a small gym located in the clubhouse. And there is even a butterfly garden located on the far side of the clubhouse. I don't recall ever seeing a living person there. Nor a dead one.---
If you are a parent with school age children you will be happy to know the new Gerald Adams school is located nearby.

Key West Commercial Property - 5625 2nd Ave, Stock Island, FL 33040

Despite the global pandemic Key West continues to go about the daily business of doing business on the Island of Key West and the smaller islands in the Lower Keys which rely the merchants, vendors, manufacturers, trades people, and so on. In other words business did not shut down.

I found the above photo of Stock Island given that name decades ago as the place where the meat that fed the Key West was raised and then taken across what became know as "Cow Key Channel" to be slaughtered. Tourists know Stock Island is the home of Roostica, Hogfish Bar & Grill and many eateries from cheap to cuisine. There are a lot of trailers, modulars, and mid-century homes plus commercial buildings interspersed everywhere. There are a couple of private dumps and storage lots for old autos. There is also a massive land reclamation development going near the eastern waters edge. Stock Island is an island in transition. There is activity everywhere. I had to dodge two trucks to take the photo below.
The listing Broker describes 5625 2nd Avenue this way:
"This income producing mixed use property offers an excellent opportunity on Stock Island before it's too late. The property consists of two buildings with apx. 6,000 sq. ft of interior space on a large12, 500 sq. ft. lot with loads of parking. There are two buildings, one is an elevated concrete L shaped built in 1979 with separate bays. A two story building was built in 1984 and is rented as office space. The property is completely fenced and each of the 9 units have their own access. The location is ideal with close proximity to US1 and Key West as well as the large hotels and marinas on Stock Island. This mixed use building is in the MU zoning district offering many options in addition to keeping it as a profitable rental property with solid tenants. Please do not disturb tenants."

Key West Real Estate Trivial Pursuit - Part Three

Key West has changed so much since the first time I visited in 1984. I have lived here since 1993 and drive up and down the streets almost every day. I can go for months not seeing a particular area on the island, see that something has changed, and try to remember what was there before. Let's look at a few "before" photos to see if you know where the property is located. They will be easy this third time as I am placing a current photo under the property.

Number 1
I took the above photo around 1998. I searched my old shoebox and found a photo of the same properties in 1965 - see below. There were two buildings bridged together to for what looks to be an apartment complex. If you closely it appears that first and second floor porches were enclosed with louver shutters to expand the interior living space. It also looks like the exterior had new fashioned asbestos siding added The center building may have been a laundry area.  I searched the Sanborn Fire Maps which showed buildings on both sites dating back to 1889. The building on the far right is too large to be the building on that site in 1889 and appears to have been added prior to 1912.
I also found an aerial photo of the Army Barracks located across the street. I added check marks to show the two still unidentified buildings.
This is the same location photographed a couple of days ago. Everyone will get this one.

Number 2
I remember sitting in my car at one of the few four-way traffic light intersections in town looking at the ugly one story "modern" CBS building blocking the view of some older building to the rear. I kept wishing someone would by the place, tear it down, and restore the building in the rear. I took a photo of the building but have not been able to find it. I did find the two above photos in the Monroe County Library collection. I took the photo below of that same location a couple of days ago. It is one of the more remarkable renovations in town. I am sure you will agree.

Number 3
I took photos of the side by side properties around twenty years ago. Both properties have changed immensely. The top photo was four apartments which were converted into condominiums. I took new photos of both properties yesterday. The condos are surrounded by palm trees so that photo is useless. I sold the house next door. I remember sitting inside the kitchen watching television coverage of the the US invasion of Baghdad on the day we did the home inspection. The place is beautiful today.  I think a lot of people drive by houses with peeling paint and think the insides must be awful. That is not always the case.  Some owners continue to let the outside look bad to fool the taxman. That is why I tell potential buyers to take a look. You never know what you may see.

Number 4
I borrowed a couple of photos from the Monroe County Library which show this location before there was a building and when there was a car sales lot. In recent years the property was a car rental business. That location sold in June 2020 for $7,025,000. It will become a parking lot. That was a steal.
