Back on the Market: 707 Southard Street - Key West

707 Southard Street - Old Town - Key West

The listing Realtor (who is also the owner) describes the cottage home at 707 Southard Street as
"Quintessential Conch Cottage in Best Old Town location. New baths, newly refinished wood floors, fully fenced, new mini split ac system, outdoor shower and laundry. Sit on the front porch and watch the world go by or lounge by the private pool. Original cook house. THIS IS IT! Location Location Location and cute as can be."

This special little home at 707 Southard Street is located in the heart of Old Town Key West and is back on the market. (It's been on and off a couple of times since it was listed this spring.) You can't beat the location for convenience. Most of the neighboring homes are equally charming and certainly much more expensive. The asking price will fit the budget of many buyers who want a simple getaway place: asking $599,000.

The house next door to the east is equally charming

707 Southard Street is painted a bright white. The blue shutters contrast the white so perfectly that the resultant appearance is crisp and clean. The front porch provides an excellent perch for viewing the continual people parade. I can imagine sitting there sipping an iced tea greeting passersby as they say things like "I love your home!" or other such words of praise and envy.

The house itself is small, just 606 sq ft. The living area is quite spacious and tastefully designed. Six over six window provide light on the south and east walls. The master bedroom is located front west. When the bedroom door is open the filtered light from that room adds additional light to the living area. So what one might assume to be a small space actually appears quite large. There is a smaller second bedroom at the rear. Both bedrooms have private baths. The dining area is nestled between the main house and the historic cook house at the rear which is housed in a smaller building. The cool pool is located to the west of the cook house. What a delightful place to spend the spring, or summer, or fall, or winter, or the rest of your life. 707 Southard Street may be everything you need in a picture perfect setting and located near where ever you want to go.  It would make a great vacation rental.  CLICK HERE to view photos I took of this charming cottage home.

Sarabeth's is just a block away to the west. The Cafe Marquesa is a five minute walk. The Monroe County Library is around the corner: perhaps a three minute walk or ten minutes if you stop to speak to neighbors. Five Brothers is located a couple of blocks east. You can be almost any place in Old Town within a five to fifteen minute walk. And that's why living here is so great.

Better yet, please call me, Gary Thomas, 305-766-2642 to schedule a visit to see this place. Don't wait. This cottage home is one of the lower priced ready to move in homes in Old Town offered at the price point where many buyers are prepared to buy. 617 Fleming Street #2 - Key West

617 Fleming Street
The Campbell Courtyard Condominiums  are located at 617 Fleming Street just a little over one block east of Duval Street. The location is close enough to Duval Street and the Historic Key West Seaport that you can be in either place in about five minutes or less. But they are far enough away from the hooting and hollering that happens from time to time. Many of the neighboring properties are among the finest examples of the grand architecture for which Key West is known. And there are still some untouched houses that make our Old Town area so appealing. The area is chic but not too chic. CLICK HERE to view a Google aerial view of the location.

The Campbell Courtyard Condos were "developed" or assembled from a group of unrelated buildings into a cluster which share an incredibly inviting pool and garden. The nine units quickly sold, and there has been a slow turnover of ownership since then. The main building shown above was built in the 1920s and the eyebrow cottage (just below) was built in the 1890s. All buildings were thoroughly renovated during the condo conversion.

Unit #2 was just listed, but not by me, at the asking price of $449,000. This two bedroom, two bath unit has 840 sq ft of living space under air plus a private semi-enclosed patio located adjacent to the inviting pool.  The unit has an assigned off street parking spot and is also offered furnished.

I think this unit would make a wonderfull Key West getaway place or a full time residence for the person or couple who has dreamed of owning a cute little place in the Old Town area. Remember I said this place is furnished - from the furniture to the pots and pans. You need only bring  your toothbrush(s)!  The covered patio is probably where you will spend much of your time. It is located just off the living room. It has a curved lattice privacy wall that permits you to see out to the pool and garden but offers privacy as well.

The unit has two full bedrooms and two full baths. The master bedroom has a wrap around windows of a sort that permits diffused light from the east into the bedroom. The kitchen has windows that look out to the pool. What a pleasant view that is. CLICK HERE to view a slideshow of photos of this unit and the compound.

Notable Neighbors include:  Cafe Marquesa at 600 Fleming Street, Sarabeth's at 530 Simonton Street, Eaton Street Seafood Company at 801 Eaton Street, and Monroe County Library at 700 Fleming Street.

Things to do in Key West

Things to do in Key West

1. Go to the beach. We have a few. We just don't have a lot of sand or waves. But we have so much sun you don't mind laying on the rocks cause you can get a great suntan. Better yet, hangout at your guesthouse (or hotel) pool.

2. Go to Duval Street and walk up and down the longest street in America--it stretches from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. (That's about one mile in Key West.)

3. Go out to eat. We have some great restaurant like the Cafe Marquesa, Antonia's, and 915.
You can get a lot of reasonably priced and very good food at places like Caroline's (it's in the 300 block of Duval--try the cheeseburger) or TGI Fridays (in the Winn Dixie Shopping Center).

4. Go to Tropic Cinema (400 block of Eaton, just west of Duval) or the Regal Cinema (the Searstown shopping center).

5. Ride a bike and take a self-tour of the island. Obey the stop signs and don't aggravate locals by doing dumb things.

6. Visit the Key West Cemetery. Pics included to the right. One of the best streets in all of Key West is Carey Lane. There are 3 sweet little cottages that have been renovated. There are no Conch Trains or tour buses, no motorcycles or bicycle tours, heck, even a lot of locals don't know where the lane is located. But it is just steps away from the Key West cemetery. Take a left, walk a half a block and you are at the corner of Margaret and Southard. Three block to the north is the Key West Seaport and three blocks west is Duval. So close and so far.

7. Call Gary Thomas and buy a house. 1-877-778-7092.
