 4125 Eagle Avenue - Key West
4125 Eagle Avenue is located on the sunrise side of Key West. I know most of my readers are only considering the purchase of a place in Old Town. Some will consider the Meadows and Casa Marina areas. And a few bargain buyers may even look at what I consider to be the best values on a per square foot basis  at the Key West Golf Club.Community.  I truly hope some reader will take the time to look through today's blog and click the photo link that will appear later, because if you do, you may just fall in love with this gracious home that has so much to offer.
Many out of area readers may not be familiar with the location.  I dug deep into the old shoebox and found a couple of aerial photos of the area taken a few decades back. The first photo (immediately below) shows the U.S. Navy Hospital and the grounds immediately west of what is now South Roosevelt Blvd. 4125 Eagle Avenue would be in that general area.

The next photo below was taken in the 1970s and shows the same general area.
Better than that, click GOOGLE MAP and take a current aerial view of the area and then use the toggle switch to see a street view 4125 Eagle and the surrounding homes. You will be likely be impressed.

The listing Realtor describes 4125 Eagle Avenue thus:

4125 Eagle Avenue offers 2268 square feet of living divided between two floors in the main house plus a stand alone guest cottage at the rear of the huge 80' x 120' (9600 sq ft) lot.  Not included in the square foot calculations is the stand alone extra large garage of portico that welcomes friends and family to this seductive property.

My jaw dropped when I saw the dining room for the first time. It is truly breath taking. The guest cottage at the rear of the property offers several different scenarios for living including presumed use as guest accommodations; living space for a mother-in-law or teenage with a desire to be left alone; or living space for a caretaker, nanny, or other live-in.
There are babbling ponds and water features in several locations throughout the property. I found hidden gardens where other owners would have ignored the spaces. I could see that this home and this yard have received the kindest of care for years. But that is not to suggest there is any deferred maintenance, for I saw none. Everything I saw looked bright and clean and well cared for.

421 William Street - Old Town - Key West


The listing Realtor, not me, aptly describes 421 William Street as a Grand Dame.  They don't get much more grand nor much larger than this imposing (3392 sq ft) home located near the corner of William and Fleming Street in Old Town Key West. The Realtor more fully describes this new listing thus:
"Luxurious and elegant historic home located on prestigious William Street in the heart of Old Town Key West. Large 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath home, fully renovated with Dade County Pine walls, high ceilings and spacious, open-floor plan family room. The original home was built in 1889.  I found an old photo of this home taken in 1965. The side stairway is not shown in that photo. The listing agent's remarks about the "comfortable guest suite with kitchenette and living room with separate entrance for privacy" explains the appearance of the side stairway. 
When this home was updated the formal entry was maintained but the opening to the front parlor was likely enlarged from a single door or parlor doors to a wider and more permanent opening.  The stairway proceeds on the left hand side of the front entry to the second floor landing. The parlor has Dade County Pine walls, crown moldings and a crystal chandelier that is reminiscent of a more grand style of living two centuries ago.
The formal dining room hearkens back two centuries as well. The parlor, dining room and entry hall are all part of the original house. A substantial addition was built at the rear where the informal living area and kitchen now exist.

All three bedrooms are located on the second floor. The master bedroom with cathedral ceiling and  en-suite bath are located at the rear of the house in the recent two story addition to the home. The master bedroom has a rear balcony that cantilevers over the pool and deck below. The other two bedrooms and baths are in the front part of the original home.

923 Angela Street - Old Town - Key West

Just Listed 923 Angela Street, Key West, Florida.  This storybook cottage is located on a quiet one-way land in the Old Town Historic District within easy walking or biking distance to Duval Street and the Historic Seaport. You may have seen this house in my blog before as it, like many of our other little houses, has been sold and re-sold several times over the years. Each successive owner has done this and that to improve the simple wooden house.
I dug down into my old shoebox and found the black and white photo taken in 1965 and the color photo just below which was dated 1986.  The most recent owners did a thorough restoration of the property for which they were awarded the Historic Florida Keys Foundation 2017 Ceramic Star for Historic Preservation. That included replacement of piers, new kitchen, two new full baths, pool addition, and upgrading the interiors.
The new white kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances harmoniously blends with the traditional conch cottage. The Dade County Pine walls were restored and sealed. New wood floors added. Ceiling and trim work painted crisp white. Everything works!
This home has two bedrooms and two full bath rooms including the guest room located at the rear. French panel doors open out to the lanai where the new heated pool and waterfall sit amidst illuminated and irrigated tropical foliage.
The backyard, pool area, and outdoor shower are totally private. The houses on either side are one-story and do not have a view of the rear nor does the property to the rear. A new owner can be as free as he or she or they please.
Dormers were added to the second floor of the original house thereby creating a cute little office area with hidden storage plus a full bath worthy of inclusion in a home decor magazine.
The private roof-top sun deck is the topping on the cake so to speak. What a great little place to relax - and it's just that nearer to heaven.

921-923 Johnson Street - Casa Marina Area - Key West

I frequently write about this or that property being located on one of the best lots in Old Town because most new "second home" buyers want a house in the Old Town area. That is the area with which they are most familiar.  I often write about homes in the Meadows Area or Casa Marina Area as differing locations worthy of consideration.  The listing at 921-923 Johnson Street is located in the Casa Marina Area.  It is probably not what second home buyers envision unless they are looking for a large lot with development potential in a terrific location where the property values should substantially increase.  If that fits your potential buyer profile, please keep reading.

The listing Realtor describes 921-923 Johnson Street this way:
"This is the last re-developed corner lot at Johnson Street and Grinnell in the highly desirable Casa Marina/Higgs Beach neighborhood of Key West. That property was a vintage 1963 split level home that sat on a 7500 sq ft lot on a block of multi-million dollar homes.
