Multiple sets of French doors add drama to the great room by providing garden and/or pool views from three different directions.
The kitchen is tucked off to the side. But it isn't small, just tucked.  There are ample food preparation areas in this kitchen as well as a nifty bar for informal dining.

623 Thomas Street #A - Key West Bank Owned Condo


Just Listed, but not by me, 623 Thomas Street #A, Key West, Florida . This is a Bank Owned condominium located opposite to the entrance to the Shipyard Condominiums in Key West, Florida.  Now this unit is nothing like the nice little condos over at the Shipyard, but it isn't priced like those units either.

I dug down deep into my old shoebox and found a photo taken about fifty years ago of this multi-unit building.  The building was converted to condominiums around 2002. (The online property records do not show any records other than siding replacement. That does not mean permits were not taken out. It just means the records for this property are not shown online.)

This unit is a one bedroom. There is no closet for the bedroom. The living room and dining area are quiet spacious. The kitchen is at the rear as is the bathroom. It appeared to me that the original floors were replaced when the property was converted to  a condominium. The floors for the most part are in very good condition. 
A single door in the kitchen and French doors in the living room open out to a long deck that wraps around the back of the house. The side and rear yard are totally unsuspected. 
The listing Realtor describes this property this way: "Fantastic Old Town Location! Make This Your Own With Your Personal Touches Needs Some TLC. This One Bedroom And One Bath Offers High Ceilings And French Doors Leading To Your Open Porch. Common Area Offers A Private Fenced In Yard." I do not know if the unit owner has exclusive use of the outdoor space. However, it is the only unit with access to the yard. 812 Johnson Lane - Old Town - Key West

 Just Listed by yours truly, 812 Johnson Lane in Old Town Key West. This two bedroom home has just been completely renovated and awaits a new owner. But there's more to this house than meets the eye from the street. You see this home has guest cottage at the rear that is located behind the free form heated pool. That means you will have a total of three bedrooms, a pool, and off street parking all within a three block walk to Duval Street.

Just Listed by Preferred Properties Key West, that's where I work but this is not my listing, 311 Elizabeth Street, Key West. This historic old Grand Conch home is located at the foot of the Historic Key West Seaport and just two blocks from Duval Street. It has a very valuable Transient Rental License, a great pool, and off street parking.  The listing Realtor describes this property as:

I dug down into the old shoebox and found the black and white photo two above that was taken nearly fifty years ago.   The photo immediately above is very recent. Shutters, flags, and tropical vegetation give the old girl a bit more flair.  I checked the Sanborn Fire Maps and first found 311 Elizabeth Street specifically noted on the 1899 map.  When I recently stepped inside the house to take photos, I could tell this was indeed an old house. Although most of the downstairs was updated in the past twenty years, the dark Dade County Pine walls in the main floor living room and ceilings were a dead giveaway that this was a very old house indeed.
The property has three living spaces that are recognized by the City of Key West. They include (1) the main floor owners' unit, (2) second floor apartment with associated guest house licensed room, and (3) a guest cottage also with a guest house licensed room. There is an attached guest suite extension from the main floor owners unit that includes a living room, Pullman kitchen, bath, and bedroom. 
The detached guest cottage is as large as many of the smaller homes and condos in the Old Town area.  The great room has a tall vaulted ceiling with skylight and a bright and cheery kitchen. A steep stairway leads to a large second level sleeping loft which would accommodate two queen size beds.
